Balıkesir Vocational School is a well-established educational institution that has served Balıkesir and the region for many years to meet the vocational and technical education needs of the region. As one of the key institutions that form the foundation of Balıkesir University, the school's history has been shaped by various administrative changes and developmental stages.
Balıkesir Vocational School began offering education in the 1976-1977 academic year under the Ministry of National Education's YAY-KUR Formal Higher Education Department. In 1982, it was affiliated with Uludağ University's Balıkesir Faculty of Engineering. Since then, it has operated in its building in the garden of the Necatibey Faculty of Education. In 1988, it was included in the Industrial Education Project, conducted by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) and the World Bank. This project marked a turning point in the modernization of both the school's physical infrastructure and educational programs. As part of the project, many workshops and laboratories were renovated to meet current technology, and faculty members were sent abroad for vocational training, providing the opportunity to expand their knowledge and experience. With the establishment of Balıkesir University by Law No. 3837, dated July 11, 1992, Balıkesir Vocational School was incorporated into Balıkesir University as one of its fundamental and important units. During this period, the school moved to the Çağış Campus and continued its educational activities. In 2018, it moved to its current building, achieving its current identity as one of the cornerstones of our university.
As of 2025, Balıkesir Vocational School continues its educational activities in a modern and well-equipped building on Balıkesir University's central Çağış Campus. It offers education in 16 departments and 20 programs within the framework of Technical, Social, and Health Programs.
